FAQs

Electrolysis is the method of removing individual hairs from the face or body. A licensed electrologist uses a fine probe, smaller than the diameter of the hair, to apply a gentle electric current into each individual hair follicle to destroy the cells which feed the blood supply to the root of the hair. This destruction is done over
time and rarely occurs in a single treatment.

Electrolysis is the only method approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal. It does require multiple sessions to achieve best results. Since no one body is alike, results and length of treatment vary.

It is impossible to tell how many electrolysis treatments one person will need. The total number of treatments needed will vary area to area, person to person. Many factors in a person's life will effect hair growth and its cycle (hormonal stimulation, medication, illness, etc.) and it is important to be honest during your consultation to best suit your treatment and a plan to reach your goals.
The main difference between the two is that electrolysis is permanent hair removal, while laser is permanent hair reduction. Lasers treat multiple hair follicles in a wider rage at one time with flashes of pulsing light. These pulsating lights do not always identify every hair follicle and pick up on the hair depending on the thickness and color. Laser is best for thick, dark hairs and does not work on any white, gray or red undertones.
Here at Luxe, we believe at the very minimum, clients need to complete 6 laser treatments spaced 6 weeks apart in order to see optimal results. Since laser is not FDA approved as permanent, clients should be prepared to need anywhere from 6-12 laser sessions, sometimes more for maintenance. It is impossible to know how many sessions someone will need, but when kept on track with treatments our clients achieve incredible results.
Stop tweeting, waxing, plucking, threading and doing anything involving pulling the hair at the root, immediately! If the hair is bothering you, you may trim, shave or bleach the hair so that it remains in-tact under the skin's surface.
It is recommended to limit your sun exposure when undergoing laser hair removal. Allow yourself 2 weeks post sun exposure for the skin to heal before resuming your laser sessions. Post-treatment sun protection with SPF is essential.
We use the Clarity II by Lutronic. This is a dual wavelength laser which uses both YAG 1064 and Alexandrite 755 wavelengths, making it totally safe and effective for all skin types.
If applicable, schedule your first appointment 4-6 weeks after your final wax. Make sure to completely shave the area you wish to be treated (down to the skin) 12-24 hours before your appointment. Do not apply makeup, creams or deodorant before your session. If coming from work we can cleanse the area before treatment! Make sure to be honest with your practitioner about medications (both oral and topical). Some medications are photosensitive and can lead to complications with laser treatments. If you are unsure whether or not you are a candidate for laser, book a consultation and come unshaved so we can see the color and texture of the hair you wish to have removed.

This depends on the service being provided. For services like microneedling and LaseMD Ultra, clients do get numbed prior to treatment using a medical grade lidocaine. For tattoo removal, clients have the option to numb. For hair removal, clients do not need numbing applied. If you choose to use your own lidocaine before electrolysis treatments, you may do so, but this is not part of our protocol.
